Jóvenes en Acción Program

"Jóvenes en Acción" Program

Established in 2010, the Jóvenes en Acción program promotes youth leadership at a local level that strengthens ties between Mexican and American youth in order to improve and increase ties between the two nations.

The Jóvenes en Acción program is a joint initiative between the United States Government Department of State and the Mexican Ministry of Public Education, in collaboration with the private sector and institutions like Fomento Educacional, A.C.

The program is directed towards Mexican high school students between the ages of 15 and 18. The program includes an educational exchange to the United States that lasts five weeks where the students attend intensive English-language workshops, interact and learn from their peers and host families, as well as develop their leadership and teamwork skills.

During the five months upon their return from the US, the program helps the students develop a social service project in the areas of violence prevention, substance abuse prevention and the development of a culture of legal compliance. These projects are intended to have a direct impact on their communities, as well as to create young leaders and agents of change.
